Jun. 29th, 2003 01:42 amLost in all the celebration about the Supreme Court's decision Thursday that state bans on same-sex relationships violate the Equal Protection clause is the loss of what I have long considered the most appropriately named (though the least appropriate to mention around anyone of whose sense of humor you are not exactly sure) precedent in constitutional law. Yes, the 1986 decision upholding state bans on sodomy (which the Supremes have just overturned) is named Bowers v. Hardwick. I imagine serious law school students must be reduced to sniggering middle schoolers when they hear that one. I know I am.
There's still Loving v. Virginia. But that one's just sweet.
